The Nintendogs + Cats demo is a reduced version of the final game released on promotional cartridges for the Nintendo 3DS. It could only be found at places like retail stores, gaming events, and specialist stores. A "public release" would later be seen in the European Nintendo eShop on Feburary 22, 2012.

On March 22, 2012, a special Swapnote inspired by Nintendo's spokesdog Uggie advertised the demo. It also featured a unique Nintendogs + Cats stationery which could only be unlocked from that note.

Information[]

The cartridge demo contains three different pairs of puppies and kittens based around their respective versions. The player is given five minutes to interact with them, and once that time is up the demo is reset. There is no limit to the amount of times it can be played.

The demo from the Nintendo eShop is the same as the cartridge demo, only there is a limit of ten plays.

When one of the pairs has been selected, the player will be transported to a room depending on the pair that has been chosen. For example, choosing the Frenchie Pair will take the player to the Modern Style house.

The Home Screen in the Nintendogs + Cats demo

As this game is a demo version, it is very limited compared to the full game. The player cannot take their dogs for a walk, enter contests, or use StreetPass. Furthermore, the demo does not sync up with the 3DS system clock, meaning it is always daytime in-game.

Only the pet pair's name and picture are displayed at the Home Screen; their status cannot be viewed. The Journal and Go Out button are also inaccessible. The player will instead be prompted to call the puppy and kitten over using the whistle button.

The player can feed the pets, give them toys/treats, bathe them with shampoo, brush them and dress them up. Furniture is also provided for decorating the room.

Available Supplies[]

When compared to the original Nintendogs demo, there is a wider variety of items to choose from. There aren't any cat-specific treats/food available, however.

Trivia[]

  • If one uses the Nintendo 3DS to StreetPass the game running a demo version, the icon will be shown as a Golden Retriever rather than a Toy Poodle.
  • If one StreetPasses the 3DS, and looks in the Mii Plaza, the icon for the Demo Version of Nintendogs + Cats is the same as the Golden Retriever version for unknown reasons.
  • If the player looks in the Home Menu, the icon for the demo is the same as the icon of Toy Poodle & New Friends.
