The Nintendogs Download/Relay Version cart is a rare distribution cartridge produced for North American and Australian GameStop locations during the Tricks & Treats promotional event which took place in late October of 2005.
The cartridge art features a smiling Shiba Inu identical to the one used on Tricks & Treats promotional posters.

The USA Download/Relay Version cart contained Haylie Duff's save information and the Pair of Star Sunglasses promo gift, which were hard-programmed into them. The first person to connect to the special cartridge in Bark Mode would receive Haylie Duff's gift, and then their information would replace her information on the special cartridge. The process would be repeated for whoever interacted with the first player's dog, who would pass the promo item on to the second person and have their save data overwritten on the cartridge. Since this worked like a relay, the mode was called "relay mode".
After some point, the cartridge was set to change to broadcast mode, which would reward all of the participants with the special promo gift. [1]
Because these Nintendo locations owned the promo cartridges, players could still get the special reward in a select few GameStop stores--even after the event-- until sometime in 2007.

Australia and Europe[]
The AUS and EUR Download/Relay Version carts contained Shigeru Miyamoto's save information, which included his Sheltie named Pic. Like the USA cart, the Pair of Star Sunglasses was available as a promo gift. Players also unlocked the Ranch House if they had not done so previously.

- Despite the hardware being titled "Nintendogs Download/Relay Version", the software is titled "Nintendogs Bark Mode".
- When viewed from the DS home screen, the loaded game appears with a repurposed cover of Dachshund & Friends. However, it shows up on a green background rather than a muted red one.
