A Dalmatian (Croatian: Dalmatinac, Dalmatiner) is a breed of dog available in Nintendogs and its 3DS sequel. It is the mascot of the special edition Dalmatian & Friends game.
Not to be confused with the Great Dane.
Breed Information[]

Dalmatians are born white and develop their spots after a few weeks. Their spots may be black or chocolate, and they will even develop spots on the roof of their mouth and sometimes on the pads of their paws.
It is said that the Dalmatian became the mascot for firefighting because it was used as a guard dog for the carriages that firemen rode in. As the horses pulled the carriage to the site of the fire, the Dalmatians would run alongside and protect the horses from anyone who might get in the way or purposely startle or stop the horses. In newer times, the Dalmatian is still a firefighting mascot, even though modern firefighters don't need them to protect the trucks.

Nintendogs[]
There are three coat options for the Dalmatian in Nintendogs: Sparse Spots, Large Spots, and Many Spots.
- Dalmatians with Many Spots have regular-sized spots scattered all over their body except on their face. They have the most spots, and their ears are spotted as well.
- Dalmatians with Large Spots have many big spots on their body, including three above the puppy's left brow.
- Dalmatians with Sparse Spots have very few spots on their body at all. Their ears are black*, and their faces are completely white.
*All variations in the original Nintendogs have spots that are simultaneously black and liver/brown (the color is left vague). Both color descriptions can be used interchangeably.
Nintendogs + Cats[]
In Nintendogs + Cats, the only color option is "With Spots", in which the Dalmatians will have either black spots, blue (grey) spots or liver spots, and, unlike in the DS version, the spots vary greatly in size and number.
If the player chooses "Surprise Me!" they may find:
- a gray Dalmatian
- a black Dalmatian
- a spotless Dalmatian
- a Dalmatian with large gray or black patches

Trivia[]
- Dalmatians' muzzles and paws are red tinted, suggesting thin fur.
- The Dalmatian is one of four breeds to not be featured in the original Japanese versions of Nintendogs. The others are the Siberian Husky, Boxer and the Golden Retriever.
- This breed and the Jack Russell Terrier are the only breeds not to be owned by neighbors in the Nintendogs game.
