They mean you have to leave the game as it is (so leave the game running), and just close your 3DS. It will go into 'sleep mode' and count your steps as you walk :).
So don't turn it off, just close your DS when the instructions appear.
For anyone that wants a cute/fun wallpaper, I made one today on Wallpaper Engine.
It has a cute Shiba Inu background image, it plays 3 different Nintendogs (DS) OST songs, it has a customizable clock and more.
I made it purely for fun and for others to use. So to anyone here that has Wallpaper Engine (on Steam), you can use it!

Ok so, edit: I've finally figured it out. I shared my 3DS microSD in the settings to my wifi network and accessed it with my laptop. I needed to change settings in Windows 10 cause it only worked with older laptops. Now I can upload higher quality images :)
We don't really have darker (or also called 'brown') tabby cats in Nintendogs + Cats, while they're actually very common. The closest we have to dark tabby cats is the grayish/brown tabby. I know there won't be updates on the game ofc. I would just like to discuss this topic :)

I don't have an SD card reader. Is there any other way to save nintendogs photos from my 3DS? They are already in my 3DS gallery. I only need to transfer them to my laptop or phone.
I want to add some photo's for fun, in the galleries of some pages :)
